The casting process, the result of my positive plastercine face and re-sculpting

Vasaline applied thoroughly around my face. The main focus of application on my eyebrows, eyelashes and back into my hairline. Release agent to stop the alginate pulling any hair out.

The nose was left until to ensure the breathing holes are left clear.

Alginate cast complete: Leaving the nostrils free for breathing (the nostrils cannot be covered)

Plaster bandage application, holding the alginate in place and protecting the cast.

Negative alginate cast of my face.

Applying mould release.

Technician filling the negative with liquid plasticine.

Plasticine setting inside of the mould

Filling the negative mould with plaster once the plasticine had set, this will hold the structure of the face once the positivehas been separated from the negative.

I had to re-sculpt my nose using front facing and profile photographs of my face. The nose was flattened in the casting process and the nostrils were protruding.

The start of the sculpting process required smoothing the clay and taking away any rough edges, here I had begun sculpting the jowels ans folds around the lips.
