-Core: Is the surface you are sculpting on 

-Flashing: Touch downs, excess material attatched to the moulded material. 

-Key: Cutting edge, cuts off the flow of excess material for the edges of the prosthetic.

Bleed holes/ risers: small hole drilled into the material.

-Seam Line: Dividing line on a model indicating the different parts of the mould when used with multi-piece moulds. 

-Location points: locking points which align and hold different parts of the mould in position. 

 

 

 

TERMS MOULDMAKING & PROSTHETICS

 

-Latex: derived from natural extracted rubber, used as both a moulding and casting material.

-Modelling Tool: Wooden implement in spatula formm whose ends are either, round, flat, angled, pointed or, curved. 

-Plasticine: A special oil-based modelling material which does not dry out or stick. 

-Release agent or separator: Product applied to a model before moulding, or to the inside of a mould to prevent a casting material from sticking facilitates mould removal. 

 

-Waste Mould: A mould which has to be broken off to remove the model, or original, and which can only be used once.
