DIGITAL ENHANCEMENT
Make up design of tomorrow: from the beginning: Gait analysis: four infa red transmitters attached to person and the movement is recorded from all angles and then an analysis is made. Similar technology is used within sports- motion captured and critically analysed for improvements.
CGI in film: a potted history; Westworld 1973 Young sherlock holmes 1985 Into the abyss The mask- first film to blend cgi with real human characters King kong Sin city 2005 Fantastic four 2007 Technology has been slowly developing, looking at those films the water in into the abyss is a photographed face cgid. The mask cutting out and replacing the head jim carrey. This effects: -makeup -costume -acting -creature fx -set building -props.
Advances in digital makeup: MoCap (motion capture) and PerCap (performance capture)- facial movement is captured.. Fluorescent make up is used, 6 mill dots are put on actors face and captured in high definition Through a computer. No gaps and no flaws. The computer will then put together a 3d model, overall a digital copy of the model is presented on the screen. Harry potter is a key example of cgi being used live on set, the cgi moves seamlessly with the actors on set. Davie Jones done in z brush on pirates if the Caribbean... Full CGI no make up.

Live digitalmake up: CGI is being used on catwalk models. OMOTE- real time face tracking: live digital make up.
Pro tip: Collaborate with the digital department, work with the developing times rather than against. Digital Characters involve golum, lord of the rings, king kong and tin tin. All played by andy sircis, one actor. Tools of the trade and advances in tech: z brush, mya, photoshop etc. GRIMM: morphing cgi faces onto the actors on set. Seamless visiual effects enhance the beauty renders.
INAMO RESTAURANT

CONCEPT
After the CGI implications workshop I researched interactive restaurants and bars out of curiosity and came across this unique Oriental fusion restaurant/ bar situated in Soho London.
The control of the dining experience is in the hands of the customer with an interactive ordering system. You place an order from an illustrated food and drinks menu, which is projected on to the table surface. You can also set the ambiance of the table design and see a projection of the food you want to order before it has been cooked. You can also see your food being cooked in the kitchens with a projected webcam and play interactive games such as battleship and ping-pong with the person sat opposite you.
REVIEW:
The whole dining experience was technically brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable. It was interesting to see digital projection being used in a restaurant atmosphere and the realism of digital development was a shock. The images were projected clearly across the table from a projector above and staff would only come to assist if you selected a call button on the menu provided.
PHOTOSHOP TERMS & TECHNIQUES

Swift, C. (n/a). Hybrid Design: Practical To Digital: Christopher Swift. Stan Winston School. [DVD]. Stan Winston School.
Blue screen:
Piece of card with blue tape wrapped around it will separate the background from the sculpt on Photoshop.
PRO TIP: Before you digitally add in another arm or any face/ body part (move the feature around and change its position slightly whilst photographing it so that it doesn’t look mirrored when it is digitalized. Move your light source around too, again, so that it doesn’t look similar.
Importing Photo: Creating and Duplicating Layers:
-Create a group and add the unused originals into it, label it unused to avoid confusion.
-Use the lasso tool to select an image and then copy & paste it. Select the surrounding blue and hit delete
-Black and white layers are to show up any imperfections and clean up the edges
-Pressing command and right clicking the layer will select the entire image
Older Photoshop:
-[select-modify-contract] 3, brings the line in around the sculpt.. [command-shift-I] and then [delete] will delete everything on the outside line that was contracted taking away the unwanted edge.
New Photoshop:
CS5: Again [select] and a box will appear titled refine edge. Play with the sliders to refine and perfect the edges. Select the contaminated colours and press ok.
Mirroring Features:
-Select the secondary picture and drag it into Photoshop, repeat the process and then copy and drag it onto the previous layer. Then match the shadows to ensure it looks accurate [mask layer] can be created to incorporate a web design.
-Use internet images to enhance your work. The lasso tool to select followed by [control c] to copy, [control v] will create a new layer.
-Use the erase tool to perfect the shape and size of the images, it will also eliminate any edges. Use the free transform tool and ‘WRAP’ to turn your image into the shape you desire (sculpting with the image) making it fit the perimeter,
-Duplicate layer if you like the shape. Check whether the layers should be on top of or below each other. [command T] will bring up the transformation tool.
-Select different layers and create masks to vary the tools. The [broken brush] tool will create a feathering whilst erasing. Take an internet image and de-saturate it to take away any colour, then change the opacity to suit your sculpt.
PRO TIP: create multiple designs by cropping external images and overlapping your own, a quick process with multiple outcomes.
Z BRUSH
CGI is a growing part of the make up and special effects industry and is unavoidable, especially when digital development is advancing at a rapid pace. It is important to broaden your skillset and I have taken on the Z Brush evening course to do this, I want my sculpting skills to work collectively with digital development and I feel it will make me more employable.
Tools are on the left:
(,) on the keyboard hides and opens the top menu.
(p) will allow you to look at it in 3d.
(x) will allow you to work on both sides of the sculpt.

MAKE-UP ARTIST. (2014). Make-Up Artist Magazine. Issue 112. U.S.: Michael Key. Below: Pages 35 and 40.
Since the explosion of CG in the 1990’s artists believed it would only be a matter of time before make up effects would be created solely in a computer.
“One cant really exist without the other” DMG make up and digital together, Bill Corso announced and says ‘theres nothing worse than a movie where it looks like everythings been touched up’
