SETTING THE SCENE

PROPS, LOCATION AND COSTUME FOR FILMING

CHOOSING PROPS

The room came with two very regal real wooden chairs and we were granted permission to use one of them in the filming of the make up. Therefore, I took the measurements and seeked to find a drssing table to suit, this was very problematic as the chair stood tall and there werent any suitable dressers to match. Chair measurements:

Here is the dimensions of the chair:

height from floor to chair arm - 72cm

height of floor to chair seat - 53cm

height of back of chair - 116cm

I purchased a brief case from Mollys Den in Bournemouth along side a multiple wig stand and a pearl necklace and one of the sellers at the store allowed me to rent a side cabinet to use on the day. However, this wasn't of use to me as it was too large for the room and didn't suit the setting, instead I used a normal side table and covered the surface with dark blue and white bed sheets which seemed to work for the purpose of the film.

LOCATION, THE VENUE:

I collaborated with film students from Bournemouth University and fortunately they introduced me to a family with a beautiful home were I was able to film the final make up. The house is in Southbourne and has oak wood flooring with high sealings, the decor is very regal and fitted the theme perfectly. I wanted the whole setting to look upper class as that was the basis of the make up and theme, the model will be looking into a mirror at a dressing table and choosing who she feels she would like to be for that day/ evening.

MIRRORING A DEVELOPING WORLD:

This reflects the developing world were the higher class you are and the more wealth you have, the more you are able to depict exactly who 'you' are or feel to be. This is currently pssible with the likes of cosmetic surgery, wigs, clothing and various other forms of cosmetic vanity. However, there are already scientists who have released 'living robotic humanoids' and I researched in depth at the possibilities of this developing in the near future (as seen throughout the research pages on the website). Although most of the films I took influence from are set in the future, the storyline moral reflects the developing world and the body struggles of todays society, the richer class are indeed dressed to make a statement and desporate it seems to 'compete' with their exterior appearances. The setting and film for the make up had to reflect this as I felt it tied the make up and the ideas together. I needed everything I had planned and designed to come together as one in order for the make-up to work and the venue was perfectly suited to the theme.

ON THE DAY OF FILMING

I have worked various fashion shows for a designer named Roni and the above white dress was hand sewn by herself personally, the other three gowns are her own and she allowed me to use them for the final filming. We discussed the requirements for the gowns, the theme and he setting and what they were to represent. She chose the dresses specifically for the film and they looked stunning on camera. The above black dress was worn for the assessment and the green dress to the right of that was used within the film during a scene where the model is walking up a staircase. The final dress was chosen specifically as the main garment and reflected the likes of the attire in the hunger games  which was the reference throughout. The wigs reflected the higher class citizens of the hunger games were the richer the individual is the more extravagent the hairstyle and wig seems to look.

RISK ASSESSMENT APPROVED

For the final filming I made adjustments to the prosthetic make up design and as explained prior, the magnets were now visible on the core prosthetic. There was a small incision in the mouth area for drinking and the material was thin enough around the eyes for her to see shadows and forms for walking. However, she was assisted throughout the day by myself and she memorised the scene itself for general movement. I was off camera guiding her through each scene and I handed the features to her during the final scene.
