ONES ALTER EGO OR HIGHER SELF
CREATIVE WRITING
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND CREATION
Write your topic at the top of your page and write around it. This will take away any writers block and gives you a starting point for the essay in hand.
Consequences:
Eye colour: Emerald Green
Hairstyle and hair colour: Afro, Ginger
Distinctive feature on their face: Mole
One item of clothing: Zara Strappy Heels
Skin Tone: Golden Brown
Their Age: 506
You can get to know characters from their physical appearance or through their beliefs and values. Take the character individually through your own direction:
Gender: Female
Name: Prudence Juju

Looking at a poem: The Face in the Mirror by Robert Graves:
-Outlines an accurate description of the nameless character
-Perception of self, he is scrutinising his own face and recognising exactly who he is in the process.
-It can be interpreted differently; the poem gives a descriptive backstory of the individual
-Poet wrote the poem when he was an older man; he sat down and looked at himself in the mirror whilst writing it, a detailed description of his own reflection.

Create a poem based around the character:
Sunken eyes, emerald green in colour
Flooded in water and blank in gaze.
Somewhat distracted by the afro surrounding, vine like and dripping with flicks of auburn.
A screaming face seeking attention, using the core as its base
In the eyes of the beholder she is told, freeing her gaze on dry land.
Society has influenced her struggle
Through this she stands tall in empowerment,
Zara heels carry her through a crowd of faceless zombies
Swallowed by a universe and trapped within the fabricated walls we call our world
Her name is Prudence, and as her day starts again,
Without a face, she cannot be named
Amongst many, she lives between planes and remains a fragment of imagination.
She is but a thought, which cannot be forgotten
Brainstorm the character:
How would you portray them through make-up
Prudence Juju-
Screaming mole- sculpted flat piece as a miniature face, on top of a face, applied to the left of the right nostril.
Auburn afro, tight pin curls, messy and unkempt
Green eyes, red surrounding and flooded with water
Wrinkles, tanned skin
I learned to think about the backstory of the character and not just the make up application and design, the importance of having the concept influence the design.

FINISHING TECHNIQUES
SILICONE PAINTING, HAIR PUNCHING AND FLOCKING

HAIR PUNCHING
Tools required: yak hair, human hair, hair punching needle, a pin vice, a sewing needle (vary the thickness)
Sand the needle down on an angle at the thread end.
When you punch hair, the angle and direction you punch in will be the angle which the hair will lie, essentially you are making the roots and follicles for the hair, look at hair growth for punching and analyse the various patterns.
You want the hairs to lie down flat against the surface and you want to keep the needle as close to the surface as possible. Look at artists, dave malanowski
Hold the hair horizontally and push the needle through the silicone, the silicone will grab the hair and it will be left inside of the material, using separate hairs works more effectively.

FLOCKING
Flocking creates a static field. Flock comes in different colours and various lengths. If you want to flock silicone you need silicone adhesive. (One hour shower with a bit of naphtha)
Anywhere that is covered in glue will get flocked.
You can change the size of the flocking machine by sticking
COMBINING TECHNIQUES
Galves, D. (n/a). FurTransfer,Flocking&HairPunching. [DVD] StanWinstonSchool.

PUNCHING NEEDLE:
-sidecutters
-sanding stone
-holder
HOW TO:
Beading needle (because the eye of the needle is bigger) john james from the uk. You cut off the top edge, take a straight pin and put it through the centre and snap off the edge. Fianlly, sand down the tip of the needle.
Two colours are used and cut in half, a red tone and a blonde tone.
PRO TIPS:
quick colour blending technique without using a hackle:
Use a comb and take different colours, hold onto the base, comb out the knots and fold the hair into each other and it blends it.

Applying the pros-aide: Wherever you want your transfer, that is were you brush the prosaide, make sure it is all even and covered. Then you need to dry it until the glue goes clear. If you are working with an animatronic character, try not to apply too much glue, it will hinder the movement.
FLOCKING:
-Flocking gets everywhere, wear aprons, paper suits, glasses and masks.
-Electro static flocking gun, adheres to the glued surface.
-take your time in painting on the prosaide, ensure you have covered all surface areas where you want the flock to be.

-nylon synthetic fibre. They come anywhere from powder flocking to a half inch in length
Be conservative when flocking and transferring, the creature/ animal will grow a little with the flock and transfer.
-you can create your own flocking using cow fur, winter coat.
- highly recommend pre painting before you flock.
-typically there would be some airbrushing to finish and tie it all together
PAINTING SILICONE
3 to 4 elements: Naptha, Panel Wipe- form of Naptha, Lighter fluid (Do not use low oder white spirit)
Silicones: evo sticks 1 hour shower, other silicone sealers and progel a+b
Pour the silicone into a container and mix it with the Naptha to thin it down, you are separating the catalysing elements and therefore preventing it from curing.
Pigment: silicone pigments (technovent or factor two)- silicone oil with pigment powder, silicone oil is another option.
For cleaning: if you have an encapsulated piece (cap plastic) then you shouldnt have to clean it much, Naptha will swell up silicone so you shouldnt clean the piece with it, use IPA if the piece has not been encapsulated.

Paint palette: mix the pigments with the Naptha mix and keep the colours translucent. Do not use black or white, you will have a false skin tone if you do.
Start with your darkest colours first for the base skin tone, blues in the deepest shadows, greens are your secondary shadows and add purples to form a lighter shadow.
You can use a sponge to paint the piece, however, do not use latex, the paint will never cure.
Order of painting shadows: paint with blue, add purple to the deepest part and green to the lightest parts. Purple, blue then green.
Flushed areas: stipple on the reds and purples around the blood areas, build up layers to stipple colour, avoid brushing on colour because the colour will build up in areas and begin to look opaque, add blues to break up the red uniform colour. If you add too much pigment then it will look like paint and you want to avoid this.
for stippling or flicking on paint: you need to make the paint denser, increase the opacity because the paint will not show otherwise. Add more lighter fluid to thin down the paint (haris brushes) are good quality and the bristles will not fall out.
Buy silk threads for the eyes and painting
Keep a note of the silicone colours you are using in a separate container, it is important to have reference as all of the features need to be the same colour. Finally, once the paint has fully cured/ dried then powder the surface to remove shine
