The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button:

A story about a man who comes into the world as a decrepit old age pensioner. His life runs counterclockwise to nature and he struggles to find love. He is completely covered in prosthetics throughout and I read in the make up artist magaze that a young girl was used to act out the old man at his frailest. They wanted him to look shrunken and decreped. (dieing almost) and they applied prosthetics to her arms to link the two. Later- brad putts face was edited in. I noticed the paintwork and prosthetics were seamless, perfect. All of his flat pieces were completely invisible and naturalistic and there wasnt one point throughout where you couldnt see who the old man was portraying to be.

Films   |  Inspiration: Wrinkle Texture

 Notes Taken:

His head was shaved for filming over using bald caps- a lot of make up was used to cover his thick hair shadows (layers and layers of airbrushing and spattering of colour) they struggled with the lighting choice against the make ups in the film. A thin wash would pick up very thick on film. Postiche was used- moustaches. Prosthetic brow piece on jim carrey. Cross lighting punches up texture, even unknown texture...

Tip: gelatine wont hold up for a day if the model/actor heavily perspires. Foam latex is often used as a replacement.

The make up for jim carey took on average an hour and ten minutes on average. Vivian baker helped with the wig application.

Notes:

Aging triplets in 25 year stages, starting from the age of 50, up to 100. Genetics and ethnicity effect the ageing process, therefore the final looks are diverse in age range. Team challenge.  Old age make-up  Benjamin button greg cannom- Hollywood make up artist advice is to keep it subtle. Instead of building the make up out build it forward. Very important. Get all of the shapes roughed in before adding any detail  Subtle techniques: make up should appear to be the same person in different stages of their lives. As you get older your eyes dull, bare in mind if the model has bright eyes.  Forehead, under eye bags, jowels, cheeks. 75 year olds have minimal prosthetics. All teams used silicone and gelatine.

Pro Advice:

Never do a forehead on a 50 year old, Older make up requires more sculpting.

Anatomy needs to be correct.  Third make up: 50 year old is too natural, colouring could have been more sunburnt, nasal area could have been deeper. Colouring on the face and neck doesnt match up. Look at the natural undertones in the models skin. Top look for the challenge is the first groups 100 year old man. Accurate, correct make up.
